In The School Yard (2018)
The children are playing ‘Sacrifice’.
‘Sacrifice her! Sacrifice him! Sacrifice me!’
they shout and laugh with glee,
then scream and scream and scream.
It hurts my ears. It hurts my heart. It hurts my mind.
Their innocence is turned to horror
as in adult games of abuse and war
that feed dark beings their energy-
violent and insatiable feasts of ‘Sacrifice’.
This is the history of all Earth’s people.
The children are learning to be ‘Sheep-le’.
Will this ever end? I pray and wonder.
Their teachers are silent. I listen and ponder
as children scream and scream and scream.
It hurts my ears. It hurts my heart. It hurts my mind.
Must I just learn to be deaf and dumb and blind?
