Love Sees Beauty

Love sees Beauty in ‘imperfections’,

in the ‘ordinary and common’ sights,

in the chaos that births creation

where awe and wonder delights.

Love sees Beauty present in every form

though judged by many a human-

feet, ears, nose judged ‘too big’, ‘too small’,

‘too little’ fat or ‘too much’,

‘too short’ in stature, ‘too tall’,

‘bad hair day’, no hair at all,

warts, pimples, scars and wrinkles-

Love sees Beauty through it all.

Love sees treasures of Beauty

in rocks, in weeds, in grasses that sway,

in taken-for-granted inventions,

in Nature’s abstract and fractal formations,

in sunset skies reflected on water,

in weather ‘events’ or calm of a day.

Love sees Beauty in the artist’s mess

transforming chaos into creations-

spills, sound-jumbles, rips, smudges, smears,

trash-treasures, excavations, explosions

moving dirt to build, to form

something new like the formation of stars.

Love sees Beauty through it all.

We see through the ‘eyes’ of God

when we see through Love for all.

Immigrants

This is an old photo of my Great Grandmother and her two children, all of Leeds in England. Left to right is Hannah who took on the surname Dacre then Berry. She lived in Shanghai for a while before joining her son, Christopher Saxon Dacre who had emigrated to Detroit, Michigan where he became an American and then there’s my Mother’s Mother, Dorothy Hannah Dacre who took on the surname Thicke when she married a Canadian and became a Canadian citizen… On my Father’s side, I am only an eighth generation Canadian as well.

Immigrants

We’re all Immigrants here in this Evolving

God’s Kingdom, God’s Queendom, God’s World,

this Alien Garden Planet, our World…

We came here, as the poet Wordsworth says,

trailing clouds of glory from God who is our Home…

It doesn’t matter what Names we assign

to that Home- Heaven, Paradise, Source…

It doesn’t matter what Names we assign

to that God- Names we hold holy, sacred, dear-

any more than how we pray to our God

in postures alone or in gatherings of many…

We can’t ever lose our Root Connection

to the Divine, though we might think it so

losing our awareness of Spirit Home, God,

forgetting God’s Unconditional Love Everlasting,

imagining our bodies as all there is…

We may claim Lands and Waters of Earth,

embrace Technological Wonders, Knowledge

of Scientific Facts, even while still clinging

to primitive beliefs like the World is flat

– or there’s some devil negating God’s power-

negating absolute, omnipotent, glory of God power

-or saying one Religion, one Race, one System,

one Country, one Creed, one Family called Humans

is superior, more worthy, Better and Best…

We are as Immigrant Children on this Planet

of many Languages, many Names- like ‘Earth’.

Even now, our Species struggles to fully Adapt.

When our individual ‘why we are here’ is complete,

we leave behind our bodies, our ‘Immigrant Stories’-

we leave behind the effects of our life-

how we touched the Earth, the Animals,

the lives of Family, Friends and Strangers-

moving back to our Home in God Source again-

where we stay or explore physical life once or

even many times more… Immigrants again…

Watching Wild Birds

This is a photo I took outside here weeks ago absent the wild birds and later development of the Spring bulbs.

Watching Wild Birds

Plump pillows behind my back,

a cozy comforter, a hot coffee

warming one hand, I quietly peer

through my window this morning

seeing Spring gently kiss the land.

On the other side of the grey gravel

recycled black pails hold treasures-

Spring bulbs about to flower

amidst fresh blue-green leaves

long and slender, sturdy and stout.

They sit at the base of a rock face-

beige and grey, rust and brown,

cracked and creased and carved,

weathered and mossed in veins,

part of a hill taken away.

Atop the incline by the flowers

of this potted garden of my new home,

I’ve thrown seed offerings to birds

amidst moss and grass and weed

just below the rusty roll of wire-

once a fence, now a perch for birds

watching the farm cats come and go.

In changing seasons and weather,

wild birds flock to my feed.

They’re not even birds of a feather,

this flock of visitors I now see

once more as often before,

males and females, young and old,

all together- sparrow, junco, towhee.

They all travel in flight together,

not minding different colour or size,

finding some reason to be together.

What that may be, I don’t know

but I delight when they’re in sight,

watching them close to the window

as I sit in my cozy nest bed

making sure they’re all well fed.

Watching them chat and dine,

I must say ‘The pleasure is mine’.

My reward is simply that pleasure-

birds and flowers, a visual treasure.

Coffee gone, it’s time to get up now,

change and move on with my day…

A Quilting Story

Stitching by hand and by machine, I made this large quilt for my son

My son has an interest in Astronomy so I purchased this material and hand quilted it in random lines. I’ve also made a lap quilt for my daughter and before that a ‘postage stamp’ style quilt as well.

A Quilting Story

Growing up, I watched my Mother, Dixie, develop many interests including Quilting.

Quilting Books, templates, fabrics of all kinds gradually filled up her ‘Sewing Room’. We often said that she could open her own fabric shop, amused by the volume of textiles added to her collection of many yarns, sewing machines, threads and just about every accessory ever invented for Sewing, Knitting and Quilting. As well as learning needlework from her Mother, Dorothy, she took adult courses at the local highschool for Sewing and Quilting. She also had lessons from a professional Quilter in that lady’s home when Mom was boarding there to attend a college training course to be a Registered Nursing Aide. Mom excelled in her nursing because she genuinely cared. Her passion for Quilting led her to create a total of about five baby quilts I’m told. I never actually saw them but I’m sure they were cherished gifts.

As for the fabrics, well, she brought most of her years of gathered inventory to a Church craft and yard sale. Dad and I helped Mom set up her tables piled high with many colours, patterns, textures and lengths of material. It was a sight to behold. It all sold.

For about $100.00 an excited Vietnamese refugee couple sponsored by Church members became the enthusiastic possessors of thousands of dollars of fabric . Mom was so pleased to help them out. She made $300.00 that day. I still recall seeing Dad’s face as he quietly chuckled and shook his head. As did I.

One-Sided Conversations

you know those one-sided conversations…

you do all the talking and no one else

can get in a word or two…

someone else does all the talking

talk talk talk but where are you-

silent or hoping to say…

well perhaps uh-hu- hm-hm- you do…

even cherished words in holy books

can be one-sided conversations

repeated from a long distant past…

ancient words spoken and written

words translated words interpreted

words of histories and mythologies

made sacred and made to last…

some understandings rules rituals

traditions simply stuck in the past…

continuous one-sided conversations

repeated hypnotizing repetitions

words repeated in mind-body actions…

someone else does all the talking

talk talk talk but where are you-

a head full of someone’s words

even thinking their thoughts too…

or perhaps you do all the talking

your head so full of words streaming now

even God can’t get in a word or two-

that two-sided conversation now-

clear loving uplifting understandings…

words feelings experiences now

is impossible you say- crazy you say

repeating someone’s words of yesterday-

reliving the past even today…

some think rebirth a fiction

but my heart remembers you…

i look into your eyes and see

deep buried love that used to be

the wonder the joy in other lives

our souls both true love graced…

Play It Again…

Play It Again…

a song a film a game

plays over again again again…

a feeling of deja vu…

here we’ve done it again

with ifs and wishes and dreams…

it all seems so familiar

your clothes your face your hair

have we done it all before

it feels like we’ve been

playing out another version

of a story lived before…

you see me and i see you

a dance of time in repetition

same rhythms same pace

moving through space and place

yet open to free will choice

moving in differently directions

moving together again…

have we done this before

how do i seem to know you

i’ve always loved your…

but you’ve never seen it before…

many open potential-portals

many entrance and exit points…

someone i’d like you to meet…

do you move forward or retreat

oh- perhaps another time…

or- will i see you again

it all depends… how do you feel

please don’t take that…

i have a feeling you say…

or- why don’t we take a chance

i have a good feeling i say…

a song a film a game a life

shall we play it over again

Bright Yellow Chairs

moments caught by technology- my daughter and me

Bright Yellow Chairs

a cool day by cold water

beneath a moody winter sky

mountains in the distance

bright yellow chairs in a row

beautiful to behold

strong enough supported

and anchored to withstand

fierce winds and stormy weather…

yesterday my daughter and I

took photos of her and me

my request- soon to be 73…

moments caught by technology

reminders for when I’m gone

or when she’s gone before me…

we sit on those deathly cold chairs

taking turns- laughing smiling

wrinkles erased by distance

battle-scars of weathered living

covered by warm coats of love…

my daughter and I- friends forever

together in so many lives

as with my son- family- friends

soul companions- friends forever…

undaunted by stormy worlds

though cold- uninviting- fierce

together we just jump in

staying a while- little or long…

photos taken- we moved on

to other scenes and other stories

experiences to live and to share

bringing the warmth of loving care…
